Winnipeg Police take down medical marihuana grow-op

Winnipeg Police have seized a major Marihuana grow operation and arrested a 61-year-old Winnipeg man.

Police raided a home in the 100 block of Driftwood Bay on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. They say that the raid was the result of an investigation that identified a medical marihuana production licence had been obtained fraudulently.

Police seized 463 marihuana plants in various stages of growth worth more than a half million dollars. An additional 225 plants were already harvested and drying worth about $25o,000.00.

Officers also seized grow equipment valued at $30,900.00.

On February 20, 2018, officers with the Marijuana Grow Operation, with the assistance of the East District Community Support Unit and the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the first 100 block of Driftwood Bay.

Police did not release the name of the 61-year-old accused but have charged him with Produce a Scheduled Substance – Cannabis (Marihuana) and Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis (Marihuana)

He was released on a Promise to Appear.
