The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is reminding residents to secure permits if they plan to set off fireworks for Halloween and Diwali on October 31. To be eligible for a permit, residents must: Residents planning to set off fireworks as part of a City park rental also need a fireworks permit. These free permits, required for all consumer fireworks, are reviewed by the WFPS Fire Prevention Branch. Permits can be applied for online. Residents setting off fireworks without a permit may be fined up to $500. On October 10, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted by hospital staff that an adult male had arrived at the emergency department with gunshot wounds. Central District General Patrol officers promptly responded to the hospital and initiated an investigation, confirming that the victim had sustained upper body injuries from a firearm incident at a residence in the 700 block of Flora Avenue. The victim remains in stable condition. The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and continues to work on the case. No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
