The Independent Investigation Unit has charged an RCMP officer after an investigation into serious injuries sustained by a female while in custody in Portage la Prairie.
Following the investigation that began in early July 2022, the civilian director of the IIU has determined that there are reasonable grounds to believe that offences occurred under the Criminal Code.
RCMP cst Tyler Hoogkamp has been issued a summons to appear in court in January for assault, and assault causing bodily harm.
