Manitoba’s back to work wage subsidy program enhanced

The Manitoba government has doubled the subsidy available to businesses and non-profits for bringing back laid-off employees or hiring new ones.

The back to work initiative was originally offering a 50% wage subsidy of up to $5,000 per employee hired or rehired between July 16 and October 31, 2020, for up to 10 employees per business or non-profit. The enhanced program doubles the number of eligible employees to 20. This increases the maximum financial support for employers from $50,000 to $100,000.

“Many businesses are adapting and finding ways to operate safely and offer services that Manitobans rely on, and we want to support them as they rebuild to pre-pandemic staffing levels,” said Premier Brian Pallister

As of August 25, 2020, 445 employers have applied for the program to bring back or hire 2,429 employees which would equal more than $12 million in financial support according to government figures.
