Winnipeg Police Respond to Multiple Weapons-Related Incidents

Between April 29 and April 30, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s General Patrol Units and Cadets, responded to a series of weapons-related incidents involving knives and a hatchet.

On April 29, at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from the Central District were called to a transit bus near Portage/Vaughn. A male passenger, displaying signs of intoxication, was reportedly threatening other passengers with a knife. The man, identified as 32-year-old Abraham Horace Saunders, was taken into custody without any injuries reported. Saunders has been charged with possession of a weapon and failure to comply with a release order.

Later that evening, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Cadets, while patrolling near Hargrave/Ellice, encountered a group consuming liquor in public. As the Cadets approached, the group dispersed, leaving behind one individual who attempted to conceal the liquor. The individual, identified as 24-year-old Wayne Wesley Duck, was found to be carrying a concealed knife and was subsequently taken into custody. Duck has been charged with failure to comply with a condition of a release order and carrying a concealed weapon.

In the early hours of April 30, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the Central District recognized a male believed to be breaching curfew conditions outside an establishment in the 200 block of Maryland. Upon arrest, a knife was found in the 14-year-old male’s possession. The minor, whose identity has been withheld, is currently in police custody and facing charges of possession of a weapon and failure to comply with a condition of a release order.
