Snow stops stolen sedan, suspect snagged

Winnipeg Police have a 32-year-old female in custody after a car, that was left running, was stolen from the 1700 block of Pembina Highway on Monday evening, January 21, 2019.

Police say that officers spotted the stolen sedan about six hours later driving in the area of Beverley Street and Sargent Avenue. The vehicle matched the description but did not have any plates on it.

Officers say that a male was driving and several other people were in the vehicle when they saw it. Police followed in their cruiser and when the driver began to flee a pursuit was initiated only to be stopped soon afterwards due to public safety concerns.

The vehicle was spotted again a little while later in a backplane near Furby Street and Westminster Avenue. This time the driver was a female and the only person in the vehicle. As police tried to pull her over she fled at a high rate of speed.

Air-1 followed the vehicle as it drove erratically through the west end. Ground units were able to deploy a stop stick causing the tires to deflate. The driver then tried to take the car onto the Omand Park footpath but it quickly got stuck in the snow.

Lori Nadine Sinclair was arrested and charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
  • Ride on a Motor Vehicle in a Dangerous or Unsafe Manner (Highway Traffic Act)

She was detained in custody
