IIU investigating after a man was injured during arrest in Brandon

A 49-year-old man who was arrested by Brandon Police on December 19, 2018, has laid a complaint against an officer claiming he had been assaulted.

The complaint was brought forward on January 5, 2019 to the Brandon Police Service (BPS) who then contacted the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba.

The IIU says that they requested more information in an effort to determined the type of injuries that were allegedly caused to the man.

Information from BPS was received by the IIU on January 21, 2019, that reported the male sustained a fractured rib and other injuries during the alleged assault.

The IIU is mandated to investigate as a fractured rib is considered a serious injury.

Anyone with information that can help IIU investigators or anyone with video footage relating to the incident is asked to call 1-800-667-6060
