On May 14, 2024, at approximately 6:40 p.m., a commercial robbery took place at a grocery store located in the 900 block of Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Police Service reported that three employees were assaulted during the incident.
The victims, three adult males aged 19, 22, and 46, all suffered upper-body injuries. They were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The suspect, a male, managed to flee the scene before the police arrived.
Upon investigation, the police discovered that the suspect had visited the store earlier in the day and was escorted out following an unrelated incident. However, he returned later, armed with brass knuckles, and assaulted the three employees. The suspect then fled on foot but was subsequently located and arrested without incident at the rear of the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue.
The police recovered the discarded brass knuckles from a nearby yard, seizing them as evidence. The suspect, a 17-year-old male from Winnipeg, is now facing multiple charges. These include three counts of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized.
Following the mandates of the Criminal Code, the suspect has been released on an Undertaking.
