It is never something Winnipeggers like to see and it will become conversation at the water coolers across the city. On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, prices at the pumps jumped $0.14 per litre and it looks like it is going to stay that way for awhile.
According to Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com a problem with the Explorer Pipeline has shut it down and some refineries have not come out of maintenance so there is a supply shortage. The pipeline delivers a significant amount of gasoline to the US Midwest.
Prices are skyrocketing across the country with Vancouver as high as $1.44 per litre and Tronto around $1.22 per litre.
McTeague says that he expects prices to rise even higher in Winnipeg over the next week or so to somewhere around $1.20 to a high of $1.26 per litre for regular fuel. Midrange and Premium will be even higher.
As of 3:30 pm several stations had not yet raised their prices but staff at the CO-OP gas bar on Grant Avenue said that they were just waiting for the call to raise the price.
