In April 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation into separate incidents involving the luring of two female victims in their early teens. The suspect, posing as a 17-year-old male on social media, gained the victims’ trust, formed relationships, and subsequently sexually assaulted them.
The investigators identified the suspect as 22-year-old Kalib Naseeb DEBUSSCHERE of Winnipeg. He was arrested without incident on May 14, 2024.
DEBUSSCHERE has been charged with Sexual Assault, two counts of Sexual Interference, and two counts of Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication. He was released on a court order prohibiting contact with individuals under 18, as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The investigation is ongoing. The Winnipeg Police Service is urging anyone with information or who wishes to speak to an investigator to call the Sex Crimes Unit at 204-986-6245 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or via winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
