In a significant move to combat exploitation and promote community safety, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit has made several arrests and seizures as part of their ongoing outreach and proactive offender sweeps.
The operation, conducted in conjunction with the Indigenous Women and Girls Safety Strategy, resulted in the arrest of six men, aged between 22 and 70, on May 15, 2024. The men were charged with Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration and subsequently released on Undertakings, as mandated by the Criminal Code.
In addition to the arrests, five vehicles were seized under the Highway Traffic Act, further disrupting the activities of those involved in the sex trade.
As part of the operation, several individuals working in the sex trade were offered access to community resources, highlighting the unit’s commitment to not only enforcement but also support and rehabilitation.
The Winnipeg Police Service is urging all community members to play their part in promoting safety. Anyone with information regarding exploitation concerns in their community is encouraged to contact the Counter Exploitation Unit at 204-986-3464. In the case of an emergency, please call 911.
