Early morning on Friday, May 17, saw Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responding to a fire at a vacant, boarded-up two-storey converted residential dwelling in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.
The fire was reported at 5:09 a.m., and upon arrival, crews found the structure well involved with heavy smoke billowing out. Firefighters initially launched a defensive attack, battling the flames from outside the building due to the intensity of the fire.
As conditions improved, crews were able to enter the dwelling to extinguish the remaining fire. The blaze was declared under control at 6:27 a.m., a little over an hour after the initial report.
A thorough search of the building was conducted, and thankfully, no occupants were found, and no injuries were reported.
This is not the first time this dwelling has been in the news. The house had previously been damaged by fires on March 27, 2024, and April 15, 2024. The cause of this latest fire remains under investigation.
