Manitoba Infrastructure has been grappling with how best to improve the intersection of Garven Road (PR 213) and Provincial Road 206 in the RM of Springfield for several years after a number of serious and fatal collisions.
A number of short-term solutions were implemented such as reducing speed limits and installing rumble strips to warn drivers as a permanent solution was investigated.
“We need a permanent solution to ensure drivers are safe and we can now move forward with construction on a project that has had significant input from residents in the area,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler.
The province came up with two options for the intersection: install traffic lights and auxiliary turning lanes or build a roundabout.
After consultation with Manitobans through online public engagement it was determined that a roundabout was the preferred option.
The minister noted that the construction on the project will begin this summer and is expected to be finished by this fall.
