Annual event hits the right notes at The Forks

Visitors to The Forks were treated to a series of mini concerts under the canopy during the lunch hour today courtesy of dozens of talented students from the Louis Riel School Division.

Students  James Aikinson  (J.H. Bruns) and Mariam Busari (Winnipeg Collegiate) acted as co-hosts, and there were performances by students from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, and Marion, Archwood and Nordale schools.

The performances were part of a national event called “Music Monday”, which has been held annually for the past 13 years on the first Monday every May.

Events are held in cities and towns across Canada, and are meant to raise awareness about musical education and spotlight the diverse ways Canadians enjoy music in their lives.

Winnipeg’s event was organized by Nelson McIntyre Collegiate’s music department.  Their concert band headlined the bill.  The band will be taking part in a national competition in two weeks.  Musical Director Leslie MacCorby says today’s event was a chance for the whole community to come together to celebrate music.
