Suspect sprays police with bear spray in an attempt to flee

Members of the Winnipeg Police have arrested a 19-year-old male armed with a machete and bear spray as he attempted to flee.

Around 7:00 pm on Sunday evening, August 23, 2020, the suspect was seen trying to climb onto a statue outside a restaurant in the 800 block of St. James Street.

When officers arrived they confronted the male. The suspect then pulled out a can of bear spray and discharged it at the officers. He then ran across the parking lot in an attempt to flee.

As the officers got close to the suspect after a short foot chase he sprayed the bear spray at the officers a second time.

Police shot the suspect with a taser. The suspect was taken into custody and charged.

Kevin Andrew Grier-Bruce has been charged for his alleged involvement with toe counts of Assault Peace Officer with Weapon, two counts of Utter Threats, Possess Prohibited/Restricted Weapon, two counts of Possess Weapon and two counts of Fail to Comply with Court Conditions.
