On July 25, 2024, at approximately 10:40 am, the Portage la Prairie RCMP received a distressing report via social media. A 28-year-old woman had been forcibly removed from her residence by two known females and placed into an SUV. It was suspected that the victim was being held against her will and assaulted at another location.
Responding officers proceeded to Dakota Tipi First Nation, where they gathered information from community members and identified the suspect vehicle. The investigation led them to a residence in Portage la Prairie, where the suspect vehicle was found parked outside. Upon speaking with a resident inside the home, officers located the victim and transported her to the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment.
The victim revealed that two female suspects had entered her home, assaulted her, and dragged her into the SUV. She was then taken to the address where she was found and subjected to further assault by the suspects.
The RCMP have issued Warrants of Arrest for 45-year-old Carrie Bearbull from Portage la Prairie and 35-year-old Kelsey Meeches from Long Plain First Nation. Both suspects face charges of Kidnapping without Firearm, Forcible Confinement, and Assault.
