At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 27, 2024, officers on Special Duty at a retail grocery store in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West were approached by two victims who reported an adult male armed with a sharp-edged weapon.
Officers located the suspect in the parking lot and arrested him without incident. During the search, officers seized two knives from the suspect, which were taken as evidence.
The investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Francois Roger Bighetty of Winnipeg, had approached a 56-year-old male and a 56-year-old female in the parking lot, threatening them while brandishing two knives. The victims sought help from the officers inside the grocery store.
Bighetty has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, and five counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order. He remains in custody.
