Woman assaulted in Elmwood park Monday night

Winnipeg Police had a large section of the back lane in the 300 block of Culver Street along with the playground area of an adjacent park cordoned off as investigators processed the scene after an assault Monday night.

Police say that around 8:50 pm on August 5, 2019, emergency crews were called to Hap Hopkinson Memorial Park between Manhattan Avenue and Kent Street for the report of an injured female.

When emergency crews arrived they located the female who was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

37-year-old Joshua John Paul Redwood was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Possession of a Weapon

Investigators worked into the early morning hours of Tuesday taking photos and gathering evidence.

Redwood was detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre

Officers continue to investigate.
