Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) were busy on Terry Fox Day as they battled several fires in different parts of the city.
In the early evening hours crews were called to a fire on Milne Road in the south area of the city around 7:45 pm.
When firefighters arrived they found a pile of wood was burning.
A tanker truck had to be brought in to supply water because the location is outside Winnipeg’s water district.
Beverley Street
Crews were called to a vacant single storey house in the 600 block of Beverley Street just after 8:30 pm.
Heavy smoke was encountered as firefighters arrived on scene. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control by 8:55 pm.
A search of the building found no one inside. There were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Spence Street
Early Tuesday morning, August 6, 2019, fire crews were called to a fire in a two and a half storey residence in the 200 block of Spence Street.
The fire was quickly put out.
The people inside the home were able to get out prior to crews arriving. One person had minor injuries but was treated at the scene by paramedics and did not need further medical attention.
Firefighters found a cat inside the building and were able to return it to its owners.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
