One death reported, 63 new cases of COVID-19 identified

63 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. One death was reported due to the virus.

The person who died from COVID-19 is identified as:

  • a female in her 80s from the Northern health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 3.5 per cent provincially and 2.4 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 32,288.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • zero cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 36 cases in the Northern health region;
  • zero case in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • two cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 25 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,145 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 30,236 people listed as recovered.

164 people are being treated in the hospital of which 54 are considered infectious. 22 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 10 of them still considered infectious.

The total number of confirmed cases related to variants of concern is nine (6 – B.1.1.7, 3 – B.1.351)

907 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province. Due to a data correction, one death that had been reported earlier has been removed.

1,390 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 538,759 tests completed.

Public health officials advise of a possible exposure March 4 at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Church, 160 Euclid Ave. in Winnipeg from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. High-risk contacts have already been contacted by public health officials. However, any person concerned about their exposure to or risk of having COVID-19 should call Health Links–Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or (toll-free) 1-888-315-9257 to be screened to see if a test is required.

Vaccine eligibility has been expanded as of today. Those 80 and older and First Nation people over 60 are now eligible to receive the vaccine. Individuals can now make appointments for more than one person as long as those people also meet eligibility requirements.
