Weapons charges laid after handgun used to threaten people

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old male after he allegedly threatened multiple people with a handgun on Saturday evening, March 6, 2021.

Police say they responded to the 1000 block of Main Street just before 5:30 pm. Callers to 911 reported the suspect had been pointing a gun at people and buildings in the area.

When members of Tactical Support Team arrived on the scene they found the suspect in a nearby bus shelter. Officers were able to deescalate the situation and take the suspect into custody.

The weapon turned out to be a .177 calibre CO2 handgun.

The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Weapon, Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition and two counts of Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.
