July 23, 1983 – “GIMLI GLIDER” –Air Canada Flight 143, a Boeing 767 en route from Montreal to Edmonton, makes an emergency landing at the Gimli race track after running out of fuel. An imperial-to-metric conversion miscalculation was the suspected reason that the plane did not have enpough fuel onboard to make the trip.
