Female in her 30s among those who died, 118 new cases

Manitoba Public Health announced today that there are 118 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province and five more people have died.

Those who died from the virus have been identified as:

  • a female in her 30s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at River Ridge II Retirement Residence;
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home;
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is 10.7 per cent provincially and 11.8 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 25,244.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • seven cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • five cases in the Northern health region
  • seven cases in Prairie Mountain health region
  • 19 cases in the Southern health region
  • 80 cases in the Winnipeg health region

There are currently 4,423 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 20,133 people who have been listed as recovered.

349 are being treated in the hospital of which 245 are considered infectious. 41 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 35 of them still considered infectious.

688 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

995 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 427,476 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville. 

Manitoba Public Health noted that people who travelled internationally should self-isolate immediately and make an appointment to be tested for COVID-19 due to the new variant of the virus. They should also advise at the time of testing where they had travelled to.

International travellers need to self-isolate for the entire 14-day period regardless of symptoms and test results. Re-testing is advised if an individual develops symptoms at any point unless they had already tested positive.
