COVID-19 Update: Child-care centres to close as of Friday

Manitoba Public Health has ordered the closure of all licensed child-care centres effective the end-of-day on Friday March 20, 2020.

Parents with children in these centres are being asked to make alternate arrangement as soon as possible.

At this time the province is continuing to allow home-based child-care providers to operate.

Dedicated child-care options will be made available for front-line and essential service staff in the province. If you are providing front-line medical service or are a member of a fire, police or paramedic service and cannot find alternate arrangements you are asked to call 204-945-0776 or 1-888-213-4754.

Public health has also ordered all casinos in the province to close as of midnight tonight.

Visitors will no longer be permitted in long-term care facilities in the province. Exceptions will be made for compassionate or end-of-life reasons on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of facility managers.

Public Health has also changed the recommendations for group gatherings to be not more than 50 people. (previously it was 250)

The province still strongly recommends that all non-essential international travel be cancelled and anyone returning from international travel to self-isolate for 14 days after returning to Canada.

All health-care providers including doctors and support staff are required to self-identify to their organization if they have recently travelled internationally.

A new self-assessment tool for COVID-19 is being made available online to help determine if you need to call Health Links to get a referral or if you need to self-isolate. LINK | Self-Assessment tool

As part of the provincial social-distancing strategy Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living’s office at 300 Carlton Street in Winnipeg will be closed to the public until further notice. You will continue to be able to register for health coverage or pharmacare benefits through email, phone, fax and traditional mail services.

Courts are also making changes in response to COVID-19. The Provincial Court has announced that all circuit courts sittings throughout Manitoba are cancelled until and including May 1, 2020 or until further notice. The Court of Queens Bench is limiting scheduled matters to either emergency or urgent cases until April 17, 2020.
