Significant damage caused in Marksbridge Drive fire Saturday afternoon

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a single-storey home on Marksbridge Drive around 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

When crews arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from the attached garage. A defensive attack was launched and soon transitioned to an offensive attack once the flames were knocked down enough for crews to enter the structure.

One person was taken to hospital in stable condition said District 4 Chief Dick Vlaming.

A cat was also rescued by firefighters. “One cat we saved, it was pretty scared but we saved it,” Vlaming said.

No other injuries were reported.

A neighbouring home suffered some damage due to the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to the home and a vehicle inside the garage was destroyed.

A WFPS fire investigator was on scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
