An off-duty Winnipeg Police officer is facing charges after he was stopped during an RCMP checkstop on Garven Road.

RCMP say they stopped the officer’s vehicle around 7:30 pm on December 15, 2019. The officer was arrested and the subsequent investigation showed that his blood alcohol concentration that was outside the legal limits.

35-year-old Tyler Perkins was arrested and charged on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, for his alleged involvement with Impaired Operation with a blood alcohol concentration that was equal to or exceeded 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. 

RCMP say they contacted the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) about the arrest. The IIU monitored the investigation.
