RCMP nab suspects in Somerset Hotel armed robbery

Four adults are in custody after the armed robbery of the Somerset Hotel on Monday afternoon, October 21, 2019. Somerset is about 150 kilometres south-west of Winnipeg.

Police say a male and female walked into the hotel, pulled out a firearm and demanded cash from one of the employees. Once given the undisclosed amount of money the pair fled in a tan Chevy Impala.

Turns out the impala was stolen from Portage la Praire. As officers searched for the car they began getting tips from the public on the direction it was headed. Police soon found the vehicle after it hit a ditch on Highway 5 just north of Cartwright.

RCMP found a 19-year-old female from Long Plain First Nation in the vehicle and placed her under arrest. The male driver took off on foot through a corn field. He then stole a pickup truck and as he was making his escape was stopped by police. The 25-year-old male from Long Plain First Nation was arrested.

Police continued to investigate the incident and linked two other suspects they believe were involved in the robbery. A 43-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were arrested in Crystal City. Police say both these suspects were also from Long Plain First Nation.

All four suspects were detained in custody and are awaiting charges to be laid.

The investigation continues.
