Hundreds of people witnessed a strange pulsing glow in the night sky over North Kildonan just before 9:00 pm Tuesday night, October 22, 2019.
According to Manitoba Hydro, a downed powerline was the likely cause. The arcing line started a fire after it was hit by a falling tree.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the blaze and Manitoba Hydro cut power to the area for safety reasons. Hydro says that approximately 1300 customers were without power until early Wednesday morning.
Winnipeg Police closed Braiser and Roch Streets between McLeod and Devon while crews worked to put out the blaze and repair the downed power line.
No injuries were reported.
