A contractor working on Fort Street inadvertently severed a natural gas line on Thursday afternoon, February 7,
Manitoba Hydro said that crews were able to stop the leak just after 1:30 pm and that repairs to the underground pipe are underway.
Two office towers have been evacuated. Buildings at 220 Portage and 360 Main have been cleared but emergency crews are conducting a floor by floor inspection to ensure no one remains in the buildings.
People are being asked to avoid the area.
