Carjackers order man out of vehicle at gunpoint

Winnipeg Police have arrested two men in connection to a carjacking and robbery on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Just before 10:00 pm a 28-year-old male was stopped in his vehicle in the area of Stella Avenue and McGregor Street when he was approached by three men. One of the men was carrying a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at the victim ordering him out of the vehicle and to turn over his keys. The victim complied and the men fled in the vehicle but not before robbing the man of his belongings.

Seven hours later, around 5:00 am on June 19, 2018, officers patrolling in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue came across the stolen vehicle with a male inside. As the suspect got out of the vehicle he was placed under arrest. A search found the man was carrying a can of bear spray.

A second suspect was arrested after he was seen arguing with a cab driver in the 700 block of Flora Avenue. As police tried to intervene in the argument the suspect took off but as he was running the sawed-off rifle down his pant leg caused him to trip. Officers placed him in cuffs and recovered the weapon along with several items from the carjacking the night before.

Caleb Joshua Johnston, 29 and Brandon Lee McKay, 25  are both facing a number of weapons and robbery charges for their alleged involvement.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
