On the evening of June 15, 2024, a retail store on Osborne Street became the scene of a violent robbery. The Winnipeg Police Service responded promptly at approximately 8:30 p.m., following multiple reports of property damage and commercial robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, West District General Patrol officers apprehended three suspects, two inside the store and one outside. A fourth suspect managed to evade the police, fleeing the scene on foot before their arrival.
Two security guards, aged 20 and 21, were physically assaulted during the incident, sustaining minor injuries. Despite their injuries, they did not require medical assistance.
The police investigation revealed that the four suspects had initially confronted the security guards outside the store, verbally and physically assaulting them. The suspects then followed the guards back into the store, where the assault continued. In addition to the assault, the suspects stole cosmetic products valued at approximately $800 and attempted to extract money from the cash register.
Failing to obtain any cash, the suspects proceeded to displace and break merchandise, causing an estimated $5,000 in damages.
The Major Crimes Unit has since taken over the investigation. The three apprehended suspects, an 18-year-old male, an 18-year-old female, and a 17-year-old female, are facing charges of Robbery and Mischief to Property Over $5,000. They have been released under Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
