Winnipeg Police Seek Public Assistance in Locating High-Risk Offender

On July 18, 2024, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers of the Winnipeg Police Service were engaged with members of the public while parked in their marked police vehicle in a surface parking lot in the 300 block of Sherbrook Street.

During this unrelated public engagement, an adult male suspect approached the vehicle and threw a large metal object through the open passenger window, striking both officers in the upper body. Both officers sustained minor injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and identified the suspect as 44-year-old Waylon Joseph PAUL of Winnipeg. A warrant has been issued for PAUL for two counts of Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon and two counts of Failing to Comply with Condition of Release Order. Investigators are requesting public assistance in locating PAUL.

PAUL is described as an Indigenous male, 5’11”, approximately 211 lbs, with a larger build and shorter dark-coloured hair. He is considered a high-risk offender and should not be approached if encountered.
