At 3:11 a.m. on Monday, July 22, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire at a two-storey house in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the structure and received reports of a potential occupant trapped inside.
Firefighters entered the house to search for the individual and successfully removed them from the building. Paramedics promptly assessed the patient and transported them to the hospital in critical condition.
While some firefighters focused on rescuing the occupant, another crew initiated a fire attack, utilizing hose lines to extinguish the blaze. The fire was declared under control by 4 a.m.
During the search, firefighters discovered multiple pets inside the house. Tragically, two cats and one dog were found deceased. However, four kittens were safely removed from the home. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency was called to provide care for the surviving animals.
Damage estimates are currently unavailable, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
