Beverage rooms can stay open as province reverses course

Beverage rooms in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region were given a reprieve Monday evening and will now be allowed to stay open as Manitoba Public Health brings in stricter rules.

On Friday the province had ordered them closed as part of targeted measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Hotel owners, where beverage rooms are located, complained over the weekend saying they were being unfairly being forced to close but licensed restaurants and lounges were not.

Night clubs will still be required to close since they are licensed as entertainment facilities under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act.

Other licensed businesses are limited to 50 per cent of their licensed capacity and no more than 5 people seated at a table.

Casinos and bingo halls still remain closed under the amended orders.

Retail businesses are also limited to 50 per cent capacity.

All restaurants, licensed premises, theatres, museums, gallery, library personal service business, concert hall of fitness facility must collect contact information for member of the public entering their facilities and maintain the record for 21 days. This is being done to make it easier for contact tracing.
