RCMP say charges against a 25-year-old male have been laid in the killing of a 15-year-old girl on Waywayseecappo First Nation.
On Saturday April 11, 2020, Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a report of shots fired at a home in the community.
When officers arrived they found the girl suffering from a gun shot wound. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but soon died.
The suspect, Lawrence Jade Shingoose, was arrested by police and detained in custody.
First Nations Police and the RCMP continued the investigation.
Shingoose has been charged for his alleged involvement with Manslaughter, Criminal Negligence Causing Death with Firearm, Careless Use of a Firearm and Possess Weapon Contrary to Order in relation to this incident.
He remains in custody.
