COVID-19 restrictions still being ignored by some Manitobans

Nearly ten months into COVID-19 enforcement efforts some Manitobans continue to ignore public health restrictions.

130 warnings and 27 tickets were issued between February 8 and 14, 2021.

Of the 27 tickets issued seven went to individuals related to gatherings in private residences or outdoors. 16 tickets were handed out to people who were not wearing a mask in indoor public places. Three tickets were given out to businesses and one ticket was issued to a person for violation of the Federal Quarantine Act.

Fines for not following the imposed public health orders are $1,296 for individuals, $298 for failure to wear a mask in indoor public places, $5,000 for businesses who breach the orders and $1,750 for ignoring the Federal Quarantine Act.

So far the province has issued 2,987 warnings and 965 tickets resulting in $1.3 million in fines

The province is continuing to encourage all Manitobans to report compliance and enforcement issues either online at Manitoba.ca/COVID19 or by phone at 204-945-3744 or (toll-free) 1-866-626-4862 and pressing option three on the call menu.
