State of Emergency extended into January 2021

The Manitoba government has once again extended the state of emergency under the Emergency Measures Act.

In Manitoba a state of emergency gives the government a number of special powers in order to deal with emergencies like the pandemic. Under legislation the state of emergency is only in force for 30 day unless it is extended.

“The provincial state of emergency is being extended by an additional month to support continued efforts in Manitoba’s COVID-19 response,” said Ron Schuler, minister responsible for the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization (EMO). “We are continuously working with health officials and key departments and agencies to ensure that supportive measures are available.”

Since March there have been extensions every month and it is reasonable to expect officials will continue to extend the state of emergency until the risk of COVID-19 has ended.
