183 new cases of COVID-19, three more deaths in Winnipeg

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 183 new cases of the virus today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 4,532.

The 56th, 57th and 58th deaths have been reported. A female in her 80s, a male in his 80s linked to the outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital and a female in her 60s linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place in Winnipeg.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 7.5 per cent.

Of the cases reported today there are nine cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 19 cases in the Southern Health Region, eight cases in the Northern Health Region, four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region and 144 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are currently 83 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 with 15 of those in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 58.

There are currently 2,238 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. 1,802 of those cases are in Winnipeg. There are 2,236 people are listed as recovered.

1,721 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 244,606.

Public health officials say that there is a possible exposure in Cross Lake on October 18, after a person went to a funeral there while in their infectious period. People who attended the funeral are advised to self-isolate and seek testing if symptoms develop.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
