Youth shot by police charged in 7-Eleven robbery

The 16-year-old male who was shot by police during a robbery at the 7-Eleven on Ellice Avenue and Arlington Street has been charged.

Just after 5:30 pm on November 21, 2019, officers responded to multiple calls to 911 about a robbery in progress.

When police arrived they could see the suspect attempting to break through the glass doors which had been locked by staff. The suspect was armed with a machete.

When the youth did get out of the store he raised the machete above his head and approached an officer who had his sidearm raised. The officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon but he refused and continued to approach the officer in a threatening manner.

The officer fired his weapon hitting the youth several times. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, the accused was charged with Robbery and Possess Weapon.
