4-year-old child drowns in bay near St. Theresa Point

St. Theresa Point First Nation community members found a 4-year-old boy after a day of searching for the missing youth. St. Theresa Point is a fly-in community about 460 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Police say that on Monday, May 20, 2019, they received a call from the community First Nation Safety Officers advising them that the boy was unresponsive after being found in the bay in the North End of the community. He was pulled from the water and taken to the nursing station but medical staff were unable to resuscitate him.

The child had gone missing at some point during the evening of May 19, 2019.

RCMP say that an autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was confirmed to be drowning.

The investigation continues.
