Youth charged with 2nd degree murder in third homicide in three days

Winnipeg Police have charged a male youth with Second Degree Murder in the death of a 73-year-old man.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 23, 2018, officers were called to an assault that was taking place in front of a home in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

As police arrived on scene the assault was still taking place. A male youth was arrested at the scene.

the victim was taken to hospital in critical condition after receiving serious upper body injuries.

On Monday, September 24, 2018, the victim died of his injuries making him the third homicide victim in three days and the fifteenth in 2018.

The suspect was charged with Second Degree Murder as well as Aggravated Assault and Fail to Comply with Sentance (x2). He is also facing charges from a number of other violent incidents dating back to August 23, 2018, including:

  • Robbery with Firearm & Possession of Weapon (August 23, 2018)
  • Break & Enter Commit Robbery, Point Firearm, Utter Threats, Possess Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Weapon (August 23, 2018)
  • Warrant of Arrest (August 25, 2018)
  • Warrant of Arrest (August 31, 2018)

The youth was detained in custody.
