It has been known since the WRHA first announced the closing of three emergency rooms earlier this year that renovations were going to be required to accommodate the shift in service delivery.
On Monday, August 14, 2017, the cost associated with the construction was released and it comes to a staggering $19.9 million.
The renovations will happen over the next 27 months with HSC’s ER expanding and “minor” renovations at St. Boniface Hospital as well

Deer Lodge Centre is also slated to get expanded area as part of the announcement.
Victoria Hospital will see renovations that will convert an existing unit to geriatric care.
“These investments will also improve patient environment and the work environment for staff, allowing them to better utilize their skills in the provision of patient care,” said Lori Lamont, vice-president and chief nursing officer at the WRHA.
The WRHA is also going to fund a study into the feasibility of installing a helipad at St. Boniface Hospital similar to the one recently opened at Health Sciences but they say the construction would be funded by the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
