Province ordered the cuts earlier this year
Some managers with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority will be given layoff notices effective today, Tuesday June 6, 2017.
In a letter sent to all management staff across the region this morning from Dave Leschasin, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer said 15% of management positions would be cut by the end of the day. That is 132 positions.
“Throughout the day today, individuals occupying deleted positions will be contacted and met with in order to receive information on compensation and next steps” Leschasin said in the letter.

The health authority told their managers the reason they are making the cuts across the region in a single day and immediately was because of the stressful nature of the situation and approval from the province had now been received to move forward.
The letter reminds managers to be respectful of the process and that the cuts are not related to performance.
“I want to be clear that these position deletions are in no way reflective of performance. The individuals leaving the organization today have made important contributions to our health system. They are valued colleagues.” said Leschasin.
The Prairie Mountain Health Authority will also be laying off management in the next couple of days. 24 positions are expected to be deleted by the end of the week. 19 more are getting chopped at Southern Health-Santé Sud, 7 at the Northern Health Region and 7 more at Cancer Care.
