Earlier this month the Winnipeg Police Service declared a State of Emergency due to the number COVID-19 cases within the department
When the order was issued on January 5, 2022, 90 members had active cases of the virus and 170 others were on leave related to COVID-19.
Currently there are 65 members who are off sick with COVID-19. The WPS says that as of right now there is no need to move beyond phase one of the Business Continuity plan but the State of Emergency continues to remain in effect.
