WPS | POLICE HONOURED FOR OUTSTANDING INVESTIGATION

The members of the WPS Organized Crime Unit were presented with the 2016 Robert Faulkner Memorial Outstanding Investigation (Canada) Award for their work on “Project Flatlined”.

Project Flatlined was an investigation spearheaded by the Organized Crime Unit. It was in direct response to a turf war between rival outlaw motorcycle gangs, the Hell Angels and the Rock Machine. There had been a number of fire-bombings and shootings of businesses and residences, and vicious assaults between the groups.

Due to their on-going battles police believed that public safety was severely compromised and the conflict was raising public fears.

Through this investigation police were able to arrest 16 members of these criminal organizations. Due to the diligence of the officers involved they were convicted due to the overwhelming evidence. Sentences ranged from two to 11 years in prison and approximately $2 million in proceeds of crime were seized.

The award was presented at the International Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigators (IOMGIA) Annual Training Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.
