While telling everyone to be prepared, the World Health Organization (WHO) praised South Korea’s handling of the coronavirus and said Canada is part of a large international treatment study.
“Don’t assume your community won’t be affected. Prepare as if it will be.Don’t assume you won’t be infected. Prepare as if you will be,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General, World Health Organization.
Physical distancing measures – like cancelling sporting events, concerts and other large gatherings – can help to slow transmission of the virus noted the Director-General.
WHO announced a study in to COVID-19 treatment known as the Solidarity Trial. This large, international study is designed to generate the robust data needed to show which treatments are the most effective.
Argentina, Bahrain, Canada, France, Iran, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand have all agreed to participate in the study with more countries expected to participate.
