Everyone inside the residence were able to self-evacuate before emergency crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The fire investigator determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. Officials say that the fire originated with a wood-burning fireplace and involved a chimney.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds people to have their wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional. Stray sparks of high temperatures can ignite creosote that has built-up in a chimney.
