37 year old Melissa Joyce Gabriel from Winnipeg was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday in the stabbing death of her 89 year old neighbour.
Gabriel admitted to stabbing Dorthy Dykens 68 times in 2015.
In handing down her sentence Judge Ryan Rolston called Gabriel a “ticking time bomb” who knew she had mental health issues and often became violent when she consumed alcohol.
Gabriel will serve nine year and nine months after the sentence was adjusted to account for the time she has already served since her arrest.
