Woman Dies Following Domestic Assault, Man Charged with Murder

A 33-year-old woman has died following a domestic assault in the city’s North End, and a man has been charged with second-degree murder.

The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a call regarding a domestic-related assault at a residence in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue on March 22, 2025, at approximately 3:10 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female suffering from severe injuries.

General Patrol officers provided immediate emergency medical care, including CPR, before the woman was transported to hospital in critical condition. She succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Stephanie Anderson-Paupanekis, 33. She was a member of Norway House First Nation and had been residing in Winnipeg since 2024. Police have notified her family.

With help from the K9 unit, an adult male was located nearby and taken into custody.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Jason Matthew Keam, 40, also a member of Norway House First Nation residing in Winnipeg, has been charged with second-degree murder. He has been detained in custody.
