RCMP have charged a 44-year-old woman fraud related offences after a two year investigation into the misappropriation of funds from the Kleefield Recreation Association (KRA).
Officers began the investigation on February 1, 2019 after learning that a regularly scheduled audit of the KRA finances uncovered several suspicious transactions. The KRA then commissioned a forensic financial review that found more than $100,000 had been misappropriated.
Police say the review identified a number of irregularities that dated back 2011 and continued until 2018 and included unsupported payments were made for non-KRA expenses including payments to credit card companies and retailers.
The accused held a number of positions within the KRA including President, Secretary and Treasurer.
On January 15, 2021 Nicole Rempel was charged for her alleged involvement with Fraud over $5,000 as well as Using a Forged Document. She is schedule to appear in court on March 23, 2021 to answer to the charges.
